Ben Bronsema EWF Prize | Congratulations Richard and Vincent!
During Building Holland Digital, the first Ben Bronsema EWF award was presented to Richard Claessen and Vincent Höfte.
The study Gestapelde woningbouw toekomstbestendig met het EWF-concept has been awarded a check of €5,000. This beautiful prize was made available by Amstelius. With this, the EWF-Lab foundation stimulates research into the application of natural forces to take care of the indoor climate in buildings.
The EWF-Lab foundation focuses on accelerating innovations in the field of natural climate control in buildings. The EWF concept can serve as a model of inspiration. To add extra momentum to the acceleration, the foundation has created the Ben Bronsema EWF Prize, as an ode to the spiritual father of the concept who received his doctorate at the age of 78.
Commissioned by RVO, firm ABT, together with Bronsema Consult and Ymere, investigated the possibilities of applying the Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) concept in stacked housing construction. The EWF concept consists of three components: the climate cascade, the ventec roof and the solar façade. These three components allow the building to be heated, ventilated and cooled naturally. This biomimicry was copied from a termite mound. The study compared a residential building with EWF to a residential building with a conventional air-conditioning concept. The comparison showed that the EWF concept clearly has added value compared to a conventional system when energy consumption and comfort are considered.
