Beyond Meat to Europe

The American producer of meat substitutes Beyond Meat will supply consumers and catering establishments in Europe from the Netherlands. The company announced in 2020 that part of those activities will be developed in Enschede. Beyond Meat has developed a production line in Enschede for vegetable proteins that form the raw material for meat substitutes.

East NL supported the company in establishing itself in the region. The company's arrival will create dozens of new jobs.

The plant in Enschede will be the first outside Missouri (United States) to apply the innovative Beyond Meat approach to structuring vegetable proteins. Protein structuring is the first step in the production process. This new Beyond Meat plant will allow the production of the 2021 Beyond Meat meat substitutes to take place entirely in Europe.

Proud cooperation in Twente

Beyond Meat EU B.V. has purchased in 2020 the industrial premises located at Het Lenfert 58-60, 64 in Enschede with an area of 4,383 m² GFA with a surrounding site of 5,700 m² with 30 parking spaces. As part of this transaction Amstelius, in cooperation with Merlotte Holding on behalf of client Beyond Meat, has carried out a full technical due diligence (TDD) for this complex including environmental investigations (EDD), installation technical trials and tests.

AMSTELIUS Green Building Group's team took on the project management and plant design for Beyond Meat's redevelopment of the site into a production site of raw materials for the production of Beyond Meat products in Europe after the purchase of the complex.

We started with the various permit applications and putting together a construction team that included installation consultant Green Building Engineering, contractor Dura Vermeer and installer Van den Pol.

The production halls and cold rooms were completely renovated. In the process, the building installations were renewed. The grid connection was also upgraded to 630 kVA and a transformer was installed.

Production of the raw materials for Beyondburgers began in the summer of 2021.
