In the recreational area Spaarnwoude Park lies one of the largest golf courses in Europe: Golf Course Spaarnwoude. This public golf course exists since 1977 and annually attracts many (inter)national visitors. The owner and operator of the golf course, Heerenstede Vastgoed bv, has taken the initiative to develop a sustainable and climate proof hotel on the site in co-creation with Amstelius as delegated developer.
The plan | The Green Valley
The development plan for the Spaarnwoude Park Hotel is aimed at the realization of a future-proof complex with a strong sustainability ambition. The building with hotel and golf facilities must be carefully fitted into the natural environment of the Spaarnwoude golf course. The golf course is located in the nature and recreation area of Spaarnwoude.
The plan will accommodate a hotel with 149 rooms, wellness facilities and various amenities. The new building will also house the accommodations for the Golfshop, clubroom of the Golfclub Spaarnwoude, training rooms for the pros and other golf facilities such as locker rooms.
The goal is a sustainable design for a climate proof or climate adaptive building built according to a combination of the following principles:
- Circular Building;
- Passive construction;
- Nature Inclusive;
- BENG (Nearly EnergyNeutral Building)
Sustainability Ambition
In the process, the building will be equipped with energy-efficient installations, innovative technology and renewable energy sources. This will create a nearly zero energy building that meets its own energy needs as much as possible. Depending on the generation of solar energy, the building will be energy positive on sunny days. At those times, we aim to store the generated solar energy in its own battery so that we can use it at other - less sunny - times.
The ambition is to build circularly, preferably using local, sustainably produced and cradle-to-cradle (C2C) materials.
Using local materials or locally produced products (local sourcing) thereby reduces the carbon footprint and is better for the environment.
Circular, nature-inclusive and climate-adaptive
Key principles for the project include:
- Circular building where biological and technological cycles are closed as much as possible through sustainable and natural material choices;
- Reuse of demolition materials. The concrete and wood released during demolition of the existing buildings will be reused or recycled in a circular manner;
- Water conservation and reuse of (potable) water;
- Generation of renewable energy including solar energy.
In the design for the Spaarnwoude Park Hotel, this was developed into a sustainability concept that can be summarized in the following main themes:
- Circular & natural materials;
- (Re)use water and water conservation;
- Sustainable energy-efficient design with its own renewable energy sources;
- Certification
