National monumental Westergasfabriek site

The Westerfasfabriek site in Amsterdam is located in the Westerpark and consists of 17 national monumental buildings covering 20,000 m². Popular event venues of the WESTERGAS are the Gashouder and the Transformatorhuis.

The cultural hotspot the Westergasfabriek was purchased by Westergasfabriek Vastgoed CV in 2018. The new owners changed the name of the cultural site to cultural village "WESTERGAS," setting a new course. A creative village full of surprising initiatives in culture, food and drink, sports, family, nature and nightlife.

Amstelius performed technical due diligence (TDD) for the buyers during this transaction.

The Gashouder is the most characteristic building of the Westergasfabriek and the most imposing event venue on the grounds.

Westergasfabriek off the gas

The iconic national monument the Gashouder will run on self-generated energy whenever possible from November 2022. Since June 2022, this eye-catcher of Amsterdam's cultural village WESTERGAS has been completely off the gas. Great strides are being made in the area of sustainability, as a result of which the Gashouder will be one of the first event venues in the Netherlands to be basically self-sufficient in energy, a first major step towards the sustainable development of the Westergas area.

The monuments on the Westergasfabriek site have been made more sustainable, through a diverse package of measures, with LED lighting, insulated roofs and facades, carefully concealed rear window frames, heat-cold storage, solar panels and a digester that converts organic waste into green energy and compost.

Cultural hotspot

Conscious Hotel Westerpark; Eco-Sexy, Big Smiles!

The beautiful Conscious Hotel Westerpark is located in a monumental building which was once the office of the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. The eco-hotel opened in 2019. It has 89 rooms and the first floor houses the Conscious café and Restaurant Bar Kantoor. One side of the hotel overlooks the cultural area of the WESTERGAS - a hotspot for events, fun markets and festivals. On the other side, you're in the middle of the quiet and green Westerpark.

Conscious Hotel Westerpark thinks about the well-being of guests and planet. The eco-sexy hotel is located in a monumental building and 100% electric (gas free) with 100% Dutch green energy. In addition, the hotel rooms have water-saving shower heads and LED lighting. They also use recycled furniture, bikes!

Theater de Krakeling

Since 2020, the theater De Krakeling has been located on the WESTERGAS. De Krakeling's auditorium houses a maximum of 200 visitors and is known for its openness due to the lack of a stage. As an audience you are therefore close to the actors. This makes De Krakeling the ideal place to marvel and step out of your own world for a moment.

Fabrique des Lumières

Since 2022, Fabrique des Lumières has been located in the WESTERGAS. Here, art is brought to life: the work of history's greatest artists, cast in a digital ode of image and sound. In doing so, we use state-of-the-art technology that comes into its own in the grand spaces of the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

A large industrial space with walls up to 17 meters high features immersive exhibitions by classical, modern and contemporary artists. With advanced technology, 100+ state-of-the-art projectors and accompanying music bring the artworks to life.

Amstelius

By order of the building owner, Amstelius is responsible for the financial and technical property management. Within that framework, a multi-year maintenance plan (MJOP) has been drawn up and the work within the framework of the Subsidy Scheme for the Preservation of Monuments (SIM subsidy) is supervised, coordinated and accounted for to the National Agency for Cultural Heritage (RCE).
